Two Kyosho NISMO 400R models share the same R33-based subject, but they were sold through different channels and do not include the same equipment. The yellow MINI CAR & BOOK No. 20 was offered at participating FamilyMart stores in Japan. The red Kyosho Online Special Edition came with the MOTN lighting system and its base. Both date from December 2024, so neither is a new release.
This guide uses manufacturer information rather than a hands-on review. The featured image is an AI-generated conceptual illustration, not a photograph of either Kyosho model. Check the actual item and packaging before buying.
Yellow vs red: what is included?
| Detail | Yellow: K07128Y | Red: K07128LR |
|---|---|---|
| Original channel in Japan | Participating FamilyMart stores | Kyosho Online Special Edition |
| Scale and booklet | 1:64; 16-page A4 colour booklet | 1:64; 16-page A4 colour booklet |
| Display | Black display base; no MOTN system fitted | Red display base plus MOTN power base; lighting fitted |
| Lighting | No MOTN lighting fitted | Headlights and tail lights illuminate on the compatible power base |
| Opening features | No opening mechanism listed | No opening mechanism listed in the original announcement |
Kyosho announced both editions for 16 December 2024. Its original announcement describes the sales channels and the equipment, while its separate yellow product page and red product page identify their respective codes. The red set is more than a recolour: the MOTN base transfers power without a physical connection to illuminate the lights. Check that both the display base and power base are included when considering a second-hand red set.
What is the NISMO 400R?
The 400R is a NISMO complete road car based on the BCNR33-generation Skyline GT-R. A 400R prototype appeared at the 1995 Tokyo Auto Salon, according to NISMO’s history; Kyosho describes the production car as a 1996 NISMO complete-car project. That distinction helps when a listing uses different years for the car and the miniature.
NISMO’s period specification comparison lists the 400R’s RB-X GT2 inline-six at 2,771 cc and 400 PS, compared with 2,568 cc and 280 PS for the standard R33 GT-R. It also lists a wider body and a lower ride height. Kyosho highlights the model’s widened fenders, bonnet, rear wing and 400R markings. Look for the exact name and maker’s product code as well as the body details: a regular R33 miniature or an R33 with a NISMO-style livery is not automatically a 400R.
Don’t confuse this two-door R33-based NISMO 400R with the later Skyline 400R sedan. Nissan’s 2019 announcement describes that later 400R as a Skyline grade powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. The shared name does not make the two cars the same model.
What should UAE collectors check before buying?
- Confirm the code and colour. K07128Y identifies the yellow Mini Car & Book edition; K07128LR identifies the red Special Edition. Ask for clear photos of the actual item and its packaging.
- Check completeness. Both were sold with a booklet. For the red edition, ask whether the MOTN-compatible display base and separate power base are present and whether the lights work. A sealed box may prevent a seller from demonstrating them.
- Inspect condition. Look for loose wings, damaged mirrors, paint chips and cracks in the display case or packaging. Ask for close-ups rather than relying on a generic catalogue image.
- Check delivery and total cost. For an imported or pre-owned listing, confirm delivery to the UAE, any import charges, the seller’s return terms and what is actually included.
The two Kyosho codes above refer to these particular Mini Car & Book editions, not every yellow or red 400R made by Kyosho or another brand. The original Japanese sales channels do not establish current UAE stock.
A related R33 at Retros
At the time of checking on 5 November 2026, Retros showed the Hot Wheels Godzilla Nissan Skyline GT-R (BCNR33) as available. It is a different Hot Wheels model, not either Kyosho 400R edition. Stock can change, so check the product page before ordering. Explore more models in the Retros mini-cars collection.

Which Kyosho 400R should you choose?
Choose the yellow edition if you want the FamilyMart release and a straightforward display with its booklet. Look for the red Special Edition if the working lights and complete MOTN setup matter to you. In either case, verify the code and included parts: colour alone cannot confirm that a listing is the edition you intended to buy.
