A Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 with convention packaging can be tempting, but the event and year matter. Japan’s 2025 Hot Wheels Collectors Convention and Singapore’s first convention in 2026 both had Skyline R34 exclusives. They are separate releases, not two names for the same car.
Featured image: AI-generated illustration; it does not show the actual Japan or Singapore convention cars.
Here is how to recognise the event behind each one, what the available sources confirm, and what to check before adding a convention car to your collection.
Japan 2025: Skyline GT-R by Orange Rod
The Hot Wheels Collectors Japan Convention organiser lists the 2025 convention car as a Nissan Skyline GT-R designed by Orange Rod and marks it sold. Collector reporting identifies it more specifically as the BNR34. Its black, red and white treatment makes it distinct from a plain road-car release.
A contemporary collector report describes 7,000 cars in total, split into 5,000 right-facing and 2,000 left-facing versions. Those production figures come from that report; the current organiser page we checked does not state the split. The direction describes how the car faces in its presentation. Check the actual package and listing rather than assuming that an R34 is the convention edition.
Singapore 2026: a separate R34 convention car
Mattel Asia Pacific reported that the inaugural Hot Wheels Collectors Convention Singapore featured an exclusive Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 and that the convention car sold out. Singapore’s convention belongs to its own event and year. Do not describe it as the 2025 Japan release simply because both are Skylines.
Collector databases identify the Singapore release as the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (BNR34), toy number JKC12, in red with white and blue details. Wheel Wonderland’s collector catalogue also lists left- and right-facing presentations. Use the event name and product number alongside photos of the actual item when comparing it with the Japan car.
Before buying, check the event name, year, packaging and the precise casting name in photographs of the actual item. Details such as the facing, serial number, signatures, presentation case and whether accessories are present can vary by listing. We have not independently confirmed a complete production-number breakdown for the Singapore release, so we will not guess one.
Japan or Singapore: a quick comparison
- Japan: 2025 convention; Skyline GT-R BNR34; Orange Rod is credited by the organiser. A collector report describes left- and right-facing versions.
- Singapore: inaugural 2026 convention; Mattel reports a sold-out exclusive Skyline GT-R R34. Verify the exact variant and included items with the seller.
- Both: event-specific collector releases, separate from ordinary retail R34 models. An R34 casting alone does not identify which convention edition you have.
What to ask before buying a convention R34
- Ask for front and back photos of the actual packaging and any event identification.
- Confirm which way the car faces if the listing claims a left- or right-facing Japan variant.
- Check the condition of the blister, case, paint and wheels, plus the presence of any stated extras.
- For numbered or signed examples, request clear photographs of the number or signature. Do not assume a seller’s description alone proves authenticity.
- If buying internationally, check shipping, import charges and returns with the seller before ordering.
Limited production does not guarantee that a model will rise in value. Buy the version you enjoy and judge condition and completeness for yourself.
A related R34 to explore at Retros
If the convention cars are unavailable, Retros lists a MINI GT Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec II. It is a different MINI GT model, not either Hot Wheels convention exclusive. Check its product page for current availability or browse the Retros mini-car collection.
You can also read our POP RACE R34 guide and our article on the Hot Wheels Godzilla-themed R34. The Godzilla-themed car is another separate release, not the convention cars discussed here.
Quick answers
Is the Japan convention R34 the same as the Singapore one? No. They are separate event releases from different years.
How many Japan 2025 cars were made? One contemporary collector report gives 7,000 in total, with 5,000 facing right and 2,000 facing left. The organiser’s current page confirms the car and designer but does not show the production figures.
Does the Singapore edition have the same production split? We could not verify that, so do not assume it does.
